The Birjhora
Mahavidyalaya with its unique location , vast and scenic
campus and steadily growing infrastucture facilities provides
an ideal educational environment to students and teachers for
all round development. Starting from zero infrastructure
facility in 1986, the college has now a well established
Campus with........
As far as learning
resources are concerned, the college apart from its
prescribed university courses of science discipline including
multidisciplinary course in IT, the college community is also
benefited by the various programmes of IGNOU study centre
situated within the college campus.
A library with
numerous Books , various components of the Herbal Garden
Complex instituted by the college are available for learning
and skill development. The availability of computers,Over-head
Projectors,Slide projectors and networking augment the
facilities of teaching and learning process.
Casting aside the
traditional concept of curriculum as synonymous to the
syllabus in an affiliated system, Birjhora Mahavidyalaya just
after five years of its inception moved for establishment of
a study cum Examination centre of IGNOU within the campus and
made MoU with the IGNOU in 1992. IGNOU Study cum Examination
centre, which is the fourth of its kind within the state of
Assam, started functioning since the beginning of 1992.
Reciprocity provided by the establishment of IGNOU Study
Centre within the campus made the teachers and learners of
the host institution aware of the variety of learning
methods. Thus the College opens its campus to the learners of
diverse groups beyond its enrolled students in regular
course.
Foreseeing increasing impact of IT in the changing employment
scenario world over, the College has moved for introducing
the multidisciplinary subject IT under UGC's vocational
education scheme and subsequently opened up the course w.e.f.
2003-04 with UGC's financial support.
The College has also sent proposal to UGC in September 2003
for introducing the subjects such as Industrial Chemistry,
Forest & Wildlife Management, Sericulture, Bio-technology
and Functional English under career orientation programme.
Having ensured standard infrastructure facilities, composite
campus, the College has already started offering some
enriching courses as add on programme which will enable the
students learning the skill as the subject of their interest.
Such courses are on Certificate in IT, short duration
programme on Mushroom and Patchouli cultivation, Butterfly
rearing technique, Orchid preservation and Demonstration of
cultivation of medicinal plants.
The College is also planning to go ahead with other academic
and co-academic programmes in near future along with
integration of technology in the curriculum. Birjhora
Mahavidyalaya has adopted slow and steady approach to quality
improvement which is inexpensive but creates every components
to go further. However, we believe that we cannot transform
an institution into a quality college all of a sudden but can
move towards the direction steadily.
